Jared's Favorite Oatmeal Cake

1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Pour boiling water over oats and let stand until cool. Cream butter with sugars and eggs until fluffy. Add oats and water mixture, mix well. Sift flour with other dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture. Pour into greased 9x13x2" pan. Bake at 350 for 35-45 min. or until cake tests done. Spread topping on baked cake while warm.

Topping: 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup coconut, 1 cup nuts, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk.

Melt butter, add sugar. Blend add remaining ingredients and spread on hot cake. Place under broiler for a minute or two if desired.
